(Blood and Milk)
series: Beyond the Ark
Blood and milk is an idiom used to describe a beautiful young woman; however, this work takes the expression literally, presenting a mother cow as that very sustenance—milk and blood.

The Beyond the Ark series is the central project of recent years, born from the question: what happens to those who were not saved? The robotic-looking Beasts are the rejected—those who had to recreate themselves in order to continue. Their bodies are assembled from plaster, bones, hides, metal, and polymers—vulnerable remains doomed to decay. But on built-in screens their digital doubles pulse on a loop—like spirits no longer subject to circumstance. At the same time, without electricity, the “inside” of the Beasts disappears, becoming the invisible filling of forms so akin to what we call souls…

Each of the Beasts speaks of inequality in life and universal equality before death, of the irony of chosenness, and of the bitter necessity of evolving when you were not taken onto the ship.
